Connecting toddlers with their grandparents is a fun and rewarding relationship worth cherishing. In today’s world distance really can’t separate them!

This morning over my morning cup of coffee my toddlers enjoyed a nice visit with their grandparents all thanks to technology. All are sick to some degree but we’re all able to reap the benefits of family connection.

A fun idea to connect toddlers with grandparents

This interaction isn’t something we are used to doing all the time . We usually visit face to face but when someone is ill or lives far away it’s fun to get creative.

Here’s a fun idea I wanted to share with you to connect toddlers with their grandparents with a rewarding result.

Gather basic colouring supplies, crayons, tracers and construction paper for the children to colour with at a table.

Using a prop, set up a phone or iPad and use FaceTime or other video messaging service.

Allow the toddlers to colour and interact with their grandparents following simple instructions and conversation.

Toddlers are starting to recognize colour names, shapes, animals and more making for great oral language practice.

We did an Easter and farm animal themed tracing cards together. They all loved it and laughed and played.

This is where the rewarding result comes in, other than the interaction itself but the memory of connection. I sent a photo of the artwork to the grandparents.

Grandma then printed the image and framed it! Now she has a sweet little Momento of the memory.

Another idea is to print it on a canvas, mug or other home decor setup from an online printshop.

And remember this doesn’t have to be tracing and colouring it can be any activity that provides opportunity for chatting.

Stay connected during hard times with the love of family.
