Homemade Laundry detergent is shockingly easy to make, requires only a few ingredients and costs next to nothing compared to the liquid laundry soap at the store. Make your own homemade laundry detergent using items around your house with this easy recipe!

Homemade Laundry Detergent, Wandering Hoof Ranch

With two toddler boys, and a mechanic by day, farmer on the weekend in our household we have alot of laundry. It’s often two or three loads a day from towels, sheets, diapers and of course the day to day muddy play clothes.

Laundry detergent isn’t cheap, and when we started our no spend November challenge last fall I was determined to cut the massive expense and try something different.

I was shocked at just how easy it really is to make homemade laundry detergent. It seems to last forever and the clothes come out just as clean and smell fresh and ready for the next adventure.

HOMEMADE LAUNDRY DETERGENT

Like I said, it’s very easy to make homemade laundry detergent. For this recipe, the most frugal of all the homemade laundry detergents I came across you’ll need the following three ingredients, yes only three!

BORAX

“Since 1891. Natural laundry booster and multi-purpose household cleaner. Laundry: Makes your detergent work better. ”

WASHING BAKING SODA

LAUNDRY SOAP BAR

HOW TO MAKE LAUNDRY DETERGENT

Mix the borax and the washing today together in a large bowl.

Grate the laundry soap bar using a cheese grater. The smaller and finer the pieces of soap the better.

You can substitute the laundry soap bar for a regular bar of body soap. Just make sure you wash the clothes on warm or hot for the soap to dissolve. The sunlight bar will dissolve, but the regular soap requires the higher temperature.

Mix the three ingredients together, using a funnel, add the laundry detergent to a sealable container away from children.

1 tablespoon of detergent is all that’s required to properly wash and remove dirty, grime and stains for a full load of laundry.

This recipe is farm boy tested and approved. We’ve been using homemade laundry detergent for almost a year now. I can’t believe just how easy and cheap it is to make. Once you’ve made the switch to this homemade recipe you’re not going to go back! Forget regular dry or liquid detergent from the store at the high cost for the soap.

Go ahead and start making things at home to save money and when you’re stuck indoors and can’t get outside.
