People have gotten used to receiving baby blankets for their new babies from me. It’s one of my favourite gifts I’ve received for my children and something I love to knit for new babies.

I rounded up only five, (because there’s a better chance you’ll pick one and actually get started 😉 of the cutest beginner baby blanket patterns I know you can make!

Baby blankets are easy to knit and fun to give to moms and babies as special gifts. I’ve gathered my favourite baby blanket patterns for beginners.

The best knitting stitch for a baby blanket is a garter or knit stitch. It’s the basic of all stitches and makes for a smooth linear look to a warm and cozy baby blanket.

Baby blankets are easier to knit than larger blankets as they knit up quicker and easier for a fraction of the cost. Most baby blankets average from 130-200 cast on stitches, depending on the desired width of the baby blanket and the pattern.

Small baby blankets use approximately one to four skeins of yarn and measure around 30×40 inches and are smaller than the standard crib blanket of 40×60 inches.

1. VARIEGATED STRIPES BABY BLANKET

Yes, knitting is a lovely past time especially when you’re knitting for a baby. During difficult times knitting is also a great way to deal with stress and unwind at the end of the day. This pattern is actually easy enough to complete with a sleeping baby on your chest. Using a knit purl combination and knit on circular needles, this pattern is very easy to complete.

This pattern is absolutely perfect for beginners. If you’ve been knitting dishcloths, like the grandmothers or farmhouse style dishcloths than you can knit this baby blanket. It’s just your basic dishcloth pattern blown up and made soft and cuddly with just the right yarn for baby.
