Save money and get organized by taking stock of what you currently have in your freezer. By using what you have and getting creative you can save yourself a lot of money.

When money is tight, or we are at the end of our meal plan for the week I start by checking my inventory list from my freezer. We buy our meat either on sale, in bulk packs or mostly in freezer packs from other farmers.

Usually we get by with just having the beef that we raise, the chicken we raise and the fish or game we catch. But I know that’s not true for most of us.

Either way, if you have a hunter gatherer freezer, or a freezer full of food you grabbed on sale- doing an inventory of what you have will help you save money on your grocery bill.

Get creative with recipes, meal planning and stretching what you have.

Don’t waste what you have, take an inventory of what’s currently in your freezer and it’s best before freezer date to ensure it’s used.

Not sure how long food will last in your freezer?

HOW LONG WILL FOOD LAST IN THE FREEZER?

As a general rule of thumb, frozen food will keep for three months in a standard home freezer before starting to show signs of freezer burn. This is true for raw meats, cooked meats, prepared foods, breads, and anything else you might think of freezing

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, any food stored at exactly 0°F is safe to eat indefinitely. … So the USDA recommends tossing uncooked roasts, steaks, and chops after a year in the freezer, and uncooked ground meat after just 4 months. Meanwhile, frozen cooked meat should go after 3 months.

MORE WAYS TO SAVE MONEY ON GROCERIES

The easiest way to save money on groceries is to meal plan. Plain and simple. The best way to meal plan is to meal prep, and the best way to meal prep is to do one big freezer meal prep session. One great freezer meal idea is to host a swap party. Save time, energy and money by swapping freezer meals and filling your freezer quick and easily with the help of friends.

Try doing a meal swap with friends.
