Homemade Christmas Cards

This Christmas take a moment to write Christmas cards for those that you love. Make simple handmade cards and send Christmas wishes to your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbours. Get creative, have fun and get crafting with our simple handmade Christmas card ideas.

Christmas traditions are important to have this time of year. Enjoy baking Christmas cookies, spending quality time with family, making handmade gifts and christmas cards are just some of my favourite traditions to do this time of year.

I’ve taken card making classes before and enjoy making my own homemade greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, showers and of course Christmas.

It’s super simple to do, and doesn’t cost much to make when you have basic crafting supplies around the house, or can easily pick some up at a dollar store.

In this post you’ll find everything thing you need to know about how to make your own Christmas cards from who to send them to, what to write in them and beautiful DIY card ideas to impress your friends and family.

HOW DO YOU MAKE HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS CARDS?

STEP ONE: GATHER SUPPLIES

Start by gathering the craft supplies that you already have. Here’s a list of suggested items you could use to make your cards.

Prefolded card and envelope sets. The come in a variety of colours, including the craft paper brown which I my favourite. I often pick them up at the dollar store.

felts, buttons, wasi tape, cardstock paper, old Christmas cards, bakers twine, black marker, double sided tape, stamps

STEP TWO: CREATE CARD LIST

Friends

Family

Neighbours

Coworkers

Grandparents

Teachers

Bosses

Secretaries

Doctors

& the people that sent you a card last year…

STEP THREE: PERSONALIZE WITH FAMILY PHOTO

It’s fun to send a holiday family photo with your card. Why not get a professional one taken at a tree farm, or simply set up your tripod in your backyard. There’s nothing wrong with a funny family selfie either!

Print off basic prints online at or spend a bit more and get holiday cards printed .

STEP FOUR: WHAT DO YOU WRITE IN THE CARD?

Writing Christmas Cards shouldn’t be difficult. I’ve included a long list of popular sayings, wishes, blessings and holiday poems to inspire your Christmas card writing. Simply choose a saying for the outside and for the inside choose from our list of wishes, blessings and poems below.

STEP FIVE: PERSONALIZED ENVELOPES

Handwrite your return address or save time by using a personalized address stamp like this one. I always think this is a sweet wedding or shower gift for a bride to be, personalized stationary and stamps.

If you receive free address labels, from donating to BC Childrens Hospital go ahead and use those too!
